My Chiang Mai Hostel Crush Became a Four Country Romance
Holiday Romance • Chiang Mai, Thailand
She thought her Chiang Mai hostel crush would last four weeks, but four countries later, the only thing booked to leave is her.
A first-time backpacker arrives in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for a four-week hostel volunteering placement and falls for the Australian sharing her shifts. Between breakfast prep, game nights and days off together, a holiday romance turns into a shared journey through Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia. But with university waiting in the UK, how do you enjoy falling for someone without quietly planning a future they haven’t promised you?
Ginger Afterthoughts…
What I like here is that she's getting to know him when there's washing up to do, when she's hungry and irritable, and when she wants a day without him. That tells you quite a bit more than chemistry over sunset drinks. But she's also trying to enjoy all this closeness without getting too attached. And I'm not sure her feelings respect that arrangement. Maybe she doesn't need to decide whether he's her future yet, but she does need to be honest about whether she wants him in it. So, my question for you is, would you tell someone you wanted more even if you had no idea how to make it work?
What do you think?
You’ve spent months travelling together, but your flight home is booked. Would you ask whether they want a relationship before you leave, even if the answer could spoil your final weeks, or enjoy the time left and deal with the distance later?
